Introducing…

The Guitar Accelerator

The Guitar Accelerator is an online program for intermediate guitarists designed to help you make more progress in 10 weeks than ever before. You’ll be guided through this carefully curated experience by a professional guitar coach, handpicked by me, alongside a tight-knit group of 30 passionate guitarists who are just like you.

  • Break free from feeling “stuck” at the same level (even if you’ve been there for decades)
  • Actually follow through on your practice goals so you see your own progress
  • Get 1-1 feedback on your playing from a professional guitar coach
  • Know exactly what and how to practice to get the most out of every minute with your guitar
  • Improvise with more confidence, being able to play what you hear in your head (and sound like you know what you’re doing)
  • Learn to play the changes and target chord tones in your improvisations to craft melodic solos that move beyond the minor pentatonic
  • Use chord embellishments to create awesome chord progressions in the style of players like Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer and John Frusciante

A system for massive progress

When I initially designed the Accelerator program, my goal was to create the most effective guitar learning experience possible.

Together with my team and coaches, I designed a system optimized to help any intermediate guitarist practice more consistently than ever before and make massive progress.

Following the first test run, we analyzed countless pages of weekly feedback and did 1-1 calls with 30+ students. We used this feedback to further hone an already-solid system and make it even more effective.

In total there are five core elements at the core of your experience of the Guitar Accelerator:

1. A clear step-by-step roadmap

Stop aimlessly playing and follow the proven lesson plan that will get you playing more fluently and improvising in no time. Unlike many private lesson experiences where there is no clear structure or strategy, the Guitar Accelerator system includes a clear roadmap so you know exactly what to do in order to make huge progress.  Many of the lessons are taken from my bestselling online course, Next Level Playing – a proven pathway tested by thousands of students since 2019. Backing tracks, tabs, and GuitarPro files included.

“The Guitar Accelerator was the perfect step for me to finally bring some consistency and well needed structure into my practice"

— Rene O.

2. A dedicated guitar coach

Never feel stuck, overwhelmed, or confused – and smash through any roadblock. Your coach throughout the program is handpicked by me and has a track record as a professional, top-notch guitar coach. You'll have your coach's support every step along the way to help you stay on track and get “unstuck” whenever you need it. Get clarity on theory, connect the dots, and troubleshoot any technical challenges you encounter.

“Huge wins came from the interactions and feedback from the coaches, demonstrating to me how to put that theory into practice, refining my technique, and focusing on the essential elements of improvisation” — Rob W.

3. Individual weekly feedback

Finally know what to work on in your playing! Your coach will give you personal, 1-1 feedback on your playing each week so you know exactly what to work on and how to approach your practice. In addition to exchanging videos weekly, you’ll have three live personal check-ins with your coach at the beginning, middle, and end of the program.

“When I watched my first coach feedback, I was blown away... My coach had immediate excellent feedback and technique tips which I would probably never have thought of or heard on my own" — Ed C.

4. Practice Plans

Get the most out of every minute you practice, whether it's for 30 minutes or 3 hours. Each week, you’ll get a detailed plan tailored to the week’s lessons, to make sure you know exactly how to invest your practice time for maximum results. (And you’ll learn how to approach practicing so you can practice more effectively forever.)

“The weekly plans helped focus my practice time and avoid the endless noodling" — Gregg Z.

5. Accountability system

Practice more consistently than ever before! In addition to the accountability from your coach, our custom accountability system will ensure that you practice each week and stay focused on your goals no matter what else is going on. Set your practice goals and track your follow-through alongside the other students.

“Being held accountable by other course participants in the groups as well as the weekly personal feedback really skyrocketed my progress in ways I didn't think possible”

— Rene O.

Make Friends From Around The World Who Share Your Passion

There’s nothing that brings people closer together than working on a shared goal for a dedicated time. Expect to become friends with the other students in your 30-person cohort as you support and encourage one another. No more solitary noodling – finally be part of a tight-knit group of like-minded musicians who love guitar as much as you do.

“The ten weeks led to some new friendships and lots of guitar buddies that can lean on each other as we continue our never-ending quests to keep learning and improving” — Gus P.

Your Weekly Rhythm

The Guitar Accelerator runs for 10 weeks of active participation – from October 14 through December 20, 2024. Here’s what each week will look like:

MONDAY:

  • New Lessons. The new week’s lessons open, and you start working through them. The lessons are perfectly fine-tuned to what’s achievable in one week, setting the right pace.
  • Start Practicing. You start to practice, following the practice plan. The practice plan will clearly tell you where to spend each minute of your practice time – whether you practice 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or two hours.
  • Share Weekly Goals. Following our custom accountability process, you share your week’s practice commitment with your 5-person accountability group and your coach.

TUESDAY:

  • Coaching Call. You meet with your coach and small cohort via Zoom for one hour. This is a great chance for you to ask questions and clarify new concepts – and work on honing new techniques alongside other students.

(Don’t worry if you can’t make it live; the calls will be recorded. We have several options for different time zones; you can make a selection during the signup process.)

THURSDAY or FRIDAY:

  • Share Your Playing. You’ll record yourself playing the core techniques/exercises from that week’s lesson material, and share it with your coach and accountability group. (We’ll show you exactly how to do this.)

Note: If this scares you a bit, great! Many students were initially nervous to record themselves, but once they broke through this barrier it unlocked huge gains and massively boosted their confidence! Your coach and group will be there to support you through it.

WEEKEND:

  • Video Feedback. You’ll receive a personal video back from your coach, giving you individual feedback about your playing in the video you submitted, and guidance about how to move forward.
  • Challenge Time! Each week will have a shared challenge: play part of a cool solo or improvise in the style of a guitar legend – which you’ll share with the wider group.
  • Share your wins! Time to brag a bit and reflect on the week. This is your chance to acknowledge your breakthroughs of the week (and there will be plenty). Reading over this at the end will be mind blowing.

Here WHENEVER you need it!

And: you have unlimited access to all course lessons plus the private online community where you can ask questions between sessions, post videos, get feedback, and connect with your coach and fellow students.

Build Your Essential Guitar Skillset

Each aspect of the program has been tested and refined to help you make rapid progress in the key elements of guitar playing, so that you can:

  • Jam with confidence and freedom and understand exactly what you are playing, and why it works
  • Learn to play the changes and target chord tones in your improvisations to craft melodic solos that move beyond the minor pentatonic
  • Use chord embellishments to create awesome chord progressions in the style of players like Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer and John Frusciante
  • Demystify the modes and learn how to use them in your improvisations
  • Stop playing the same tired old licks and create beautiful and intricate solos all over the fretboard and in different keys

  • Demystify the modes and learn how to use them in your improvisations
  • Stop playing the same tired old licks and create beautiful and intricate solos all over the fretboard and in different keys

Here’s what we’ll cover each week during The Guitar Accelerator:

Weeks 1 & 2: Solidifying Foundations

  • Connect your CAGED chords with the appropriate major and minor pentatonic scale and cover your basic triad shapes, so you know exactly what to play over each chord and never get lost
  • Play horizontally across the neck so you can break out of those cliché boxes
  • Develop excellent phrasing and fundamental lead guitar vocabulary so your solos never sound boring!

Weeks 3 & 4: Playing the Changes

  • Map out your fretboard using triads and blending these with your CAGED chords and pentatonic scales, fusing your rhythm and lead playing together
  • Use Hendrix/Mayer-approach chord embellishments to help you grow beyond your "standard" licks to add more fuel to the fire
  • Target chord tones in your solos using triads so you can play more melodically and musically

Weeks 5 & 6: It's a Major Thing

  • Create more interesting and colorful sounds, continuing with a major pentatonic theme but exploring notes from the major scale (the Ionian mode)
  • Develop unique phrasing by using the "Unitar" approach and adjacent string pairs to dive further outside your boxes, viewing the guitar laterally instead of vertically
  • Understand the theory and the "why" behind how certain notes work the way they do over a particular chord, helping you make the right choices when improvising over a progression

Weeks 7 & 8: It's a Minor Thing

  • Explore the Aeolian mode so you know exactly how and when to use this sound over a minor chord progression and its key notes
  • Use 6ths to add another layer and dynamic to your soloing vocabulary
  • Discover more advanced ways to play your pentatonic scales, develop your speed, and keep your phrasing fresh and interesting

Weeks 9 & 10: Connecting Everything

  • Make your solos stand out with more advanced triadic concepts and embellishments
  • Use arpeggios to add different flavors to your solos and create connections between scales, chords, and triads
  • Combine everything you've learned in the final solo, and witness your transformation as a guitar player over these past 10 weeks

In addition, you’ll get lifetime access to Next Level Playing and all of the coaching and feedback videos from the Accelerator, so you can revisit the material as much as you like.

What First Guitar Accelerator Members are Saying…

Starting in June of 2024 we took 79 students and conducted the first test run of this program.

At the end of the ten weeks, more than 93% of participants said they would recommend the program to a friend, making this the highest rated program I’ve ever created.

The progress they made was absolutely incredible – students who fully engaged in the program made huge leaps forward in their playing, and practiced more than ever. It was a joy to see how far they came in such a short time.

Here’s what they said:

Joining the Guitar Accelerator program was the best thing I've ever added to my guitar playing. This started a whole process of learning it the right way. It is the perfect fit between a guitar teacher and an online course" — Bjoern R.

The Guitar Accelerator course was exactly what I needed to progress out of the guitar playing rut I was in. As a long time intermediate guitarist, it gave me the structure, the motivation and the inspiration to kick start the next chapter of my playing journey.

The course provided a friendly, supportive environment with first class coaches supplying personalised feedback and guidance the whole way. I now have the foundations and confidence to quickly develop my own solos and to play over any chord progression Justin C.

"I haven't taken lessons in person since I was a teenager, 40+ years ago, so that was really the last time I played in front of a "better" guitarist. It took quite a lot of nerve to record and send my first video of me playing to my coach and I was very nervous to hear what he might say about my playing.

When I watched the first feedback I was blown away with how supportive and constructive it was. My coach had immediate excellent feedback and technique tips which I would probably never have thought of or heard on my own. Every video I sent was received the same way, with positive encouragement and spot-on tips and I am still thinking of all those ideas every time I play.

This course changed my guitar playing life and I will be forever grateful to Paul, the coaches, the staff behind the scenes and the other guitarists who participated. I feel like I got a lifetime of instruction… I’m playing better and more thoughtfully than ever before" — Ed C.

This class really helped me take my playing to the next level. The weekly plans helped focus my practice time and avoid the endless noodling. My coach helped me to understand the theory behind the practice exercises and how to apply that learning to improvised solos. I enjoyed being partnered with a fellow student too, we could encourage each other to keep up with our practice times and to share the techniques we were struggling with. It's an intense 10 weeks, but really worth it Gregg Z.

After years and years of playing guitar on autopilot, I’d not only forgotten how to practice, but I’d stopped practicing altogether. I needed something to get me back into a good practice routine, and the Accelerator program provided the tools, content, structure, feedback, community, and accountability I was looking for.

It’s not a shortcut; it’s a program that will reward you for the time you put into it and encourage you to keep practicing. (It’s also a lot of fun!) After 10 weeks with the program, I’m more confident in both my playing and the prospect that I’ve built the structure I need to keep my practice routines fresh and consistent — John A.

I couldn't be happier to have taken part in the first Guitar Accelerator cohort. I remember worrying about whether I was "good enough" given the description about who the program was ideal for, but I'm so glad I ignored that inner voice. We ended up being a group that varied quite a bit as far as playing experience went, but we were all on the same page when it came to finally making some progress on the learning front.

The ten weeks led to some new friendships and lots of guitar buddies that can lean on each other as we continue our never-ending quests to keep learning and improving. My playing and knowledge have also improved more than it has in years” Gus P.

This Accelerator course has been nothing less than amazing. It gave me an opportunity to really solidify my foundation while also connecting me with like-minded, driven individuals in the same boat as me! 10 weeks is definitely a short amount of time for a lot of information, but let me assure you: this course is jam-packed with content that will make a huge difference in your knowledge and in your skills. I’d recommend taking the leap if you find yourself on the fence! You won’t regret it!” — Zakk B.

I didn't just learn to play the guitar a bit better, I learnt how to hear music, to feel it and best of all how to make music. Before this course I'd learnt a lot of music theory really well and that was a great help, but now I use my ears - to find the key, to hit the chord tones, to bend into the honey and make it all sound sweet…

I learnt to bend, vibe, slide, hammer and pull to my heart's content and now people are saying to me - “That sounded good”. Thanks Paul & the Team - I wouldn't have done it without you! Pete D.

“I've been playing guitar all my life... more than 50 years off and on. But I didn't feel like I could join a jam session and play something interesting to save my life. Before the Accelerator, if I was to attempt to take a solo for a song, I'd probably wander aimlessly around one pentatonic scale. After 10 weeks of the Accelerator course, I can choose my scales and notes and phrases according to what I want to express. I still have lots of practice to do before it all becomes automatic, but now I can compose an interesting solo, and I continue to hone my improvisation skills with an actual focus.

My bends no longer make me cringe, my note choices are not so pattern-based, but more melodic/expressive based, and I'm learning to play what I hear in my head, something I thought was impossible before.

So all in all, it was a blast – the best guitar learning experience I've had in 50 years"
— Rob W.

Now, I know this feels like an investment (and it is) – but if you’re like most guitarists, you’re already in the habit of making regular investments into guitar playing, or at least buying more gear ;) But unlike a new guitar, another pedal, or a fancier audio setup, your investment in joining the Guitar Accelerator will give you the roadmap and system you need to get out of your stale routine and make massive progress.

Most importantly, it’ll help you change the single biggest factor in your musical sound: your skillset.

This isn’t for everyone.

But if you’re committed to getting out of a rut and becoming a more fluent guitarist, I’d love to have you join.

When you click “Join Now,” you’ll go through a short questionnaire to determine if you’re at the right playing level to get the most out of the program. This way, we’ll make sure that everyone who joins is at a similar intermediate level.

At the end, you’ll get a recommendation based on your answers. If it’s a fit, you’ll be able to save your spot right away (and lock things in for the weekly coaching call at a time that works best for you).

If you’re still unsure whether it’s a fit after you’ve answered these questions, you’ll then have the chance to speak with one of my guitar coaches for a personalized recommendation. (The link for this will be shown after you’ve gone through the questions.)

Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and enrollment will close as soon as 120 seats are filled or on Sunday night at 11:59pm EST.

Got Questions?

Q. Should I join the Guitar Accelerator with the acoustic or the electric guitar?

A. This program is better suited for the electric guitar. During the Guitar Accelerator you will learn how to improvise and craft beautiful solos using techniques like bends, slides and hammer ons – many of which are challenging on the acoustic.

If you like to play both electric and acoustic guitar, then join up and bring along your electric!

If you're only interested in getting better at the acoustic, then this program isn't the best option for you. Instead I'd recommend looking at my course Acoustic Adventure, where you'll hone your acoustic guitar skills in a range of different styles and genres.

Q. How often are you part of the calls, Paul?

A. I won't be! I designed and created the system behind the Accelerator with my team, but I won't be in any of the coaching sessions myself.

All pre-recorded video lessons for your daily practice are taught by me, but all your coaching sessions are led by one of four coaches I hand-picked for the program.

I'll pop into the community every now and again to check how you're getting on and to share encouragement, and might have a few other surprises in mind as the program unfolds. :)

Q. How good do I need to be in order to join?

A. This program is designed for intermediate guitarists who are tired of feeling stuck in a rut with their playing. If you know some scales, chord shapes, and barre chords, but you feel "trapped" and like you're always playing the same ideas, this is a great option for you. When you join up, you'll be asked a few specific questions about your playing level and theory knowledge to make sure that you are a perfect fit for the program.

If you don't really know any scales and you haven't yet encountered barre chords, this program is likely to be too advanced and you will struggle to keep up. Instead I think you'd be better off checking out my beginner's program – Learn, Practice, Play. You'll then be in great shape to join my next cohort!

Q. Who are the coaches?

A. The guitar coaches are professional musicians and coaches that I have personally handpicked to guide you through the program.

Of course, they're all great guitarists and have the chops to prove it. But more importantly, they all have the ability to distill key concepts into simple ideas so you know exactly what to work on every single week.

And they will do this in a relaxed and enjoyable way so you actually enjoy receiving feedback and chatting with them every week.

Our guitar coaches come from all over the world and a variety of different backgrounds.

In our last Accelerator we had a Grammy-winning songwriter, a "math rock" musician and producer, an ex-tech entrepreneur turned blues guitar pro, and an in-person music school director – each with over a decade of teaching experience.

Q. How does this program compare to private lessons?

A. The Accelerator is intended to be a completely different experience from private lessons.

The very best private lessons are wonderful – particularly when you have an expert teacher walking you step-by-step through a structured learning progression, and especially in the context of a vibrant music school where students can collaborate and encourage one another.

Unfortunately, many guitar students have shared that they don't have this kind of experience available to them locally.

Many students have described turning up to their lessons each week and having their teacher ask, "What would you like to work on today?"

Without a clear practice roadmap, and a system in place to make sure their students get results, the students of these coaches end up wasting a lot of time, effort and money – even if the teacher is a brilliant and talented musician. This then leads them into a cycle of frustration and demotivation, as they fail to see any results and start to wonder if they are even "cut out" to play the guitar.

The Guitar Accelerator is designed to be completely different – a complete system for massive progress to give you daily support and motivation.

The program is built around a strategic, structured pathway intended to help you make as much progress as possible in ten weeks. Many of the lessons are taken from my bestselling online course, Next Level Playing – a proven pathway tested by thousands of students since 2019. Some lessons from my course Electric Elevation will also be strategically included.

So at every step of the program, you know exactly what you need to practice and why you need to practice it.

This structured roadmap is then combined with the best elements of private coaching which do work incredibly well.

In this way, you get the structure of an online course that has delivered amazing results for thousands of players, along with the personalized feedback, support and accountability of a private coach.

You also get access to an entire community of like-minded guitarists who are at your level and on the exact same learning journey.

Q. Should I join if I've already gone through Next Level Playing?

A. If you've gone through Next Level Playing front to back and feel totally comfortable with all of the concepts, theory, and solos in the course, then the Accelerator might not be for you. Many of the weekly lessons are taken from Next Level Playing, so it might feel a little repetitive.

However, if you bought the course and only did a few lessons – or if you feel you need more support and input to really nail the solos and start improvising using the techniques I cover in the course, the Accelerator will be perfect for you!

Many of the students in the first cohort had already gone through Next Level Playing, and they got a ton of benefit from the Accelerator because of all of the feedback, extra support, community, and additional material offered in the program.

Q. I only have a small amp and a very simple setup at home. Can I still join?

A. Absolutely. All you need is a guitar, and a very basic setup – using a phone or webcam – to record videos of you playing to send to your coach. You don't need to transform your living room into a music studio!

This program is about helping you make more progress in your playing in 10 weeks than ever before. So don't worry if you don't have the fanciest gear; it's what you do with the gear that matters. :)

Q. My schedule changes a lot, and I won't be able to make all of the live calls. Is that a problem?

A. Not at all. All of the weekly calls are recorded and you can access them whenever you want. So all you need to do is find a free hour in the week and you can catch back up again.

A lot of students in the Accelerator have stressful jobs, young kids or need to travel a lot, so we've made sure there is flexibility for those who can't make live calls every week.

Q. I'm away for a week during the program. Is it still worth joining?

A. Definitely! Your coach will work with you 1-1 to help you catch up and tell you what to practice before you go away and when you come back to limit any disruption to your playing.

All of the weekly calls are recorded and you can watch them whenever you want. At the end of the 10 weeks you will also have access to all of the lessons, call recordings, personalized feedback, tabs and backing tracks. So you can go back and work through them whenever you want.

Still Wondering if the Guitar Accelerator is a Fit?

Still Wondering if the Guitar Accelerator is a Fit?

Some of the players in the first cohort who ended up benefiting the most were initially hesitant to join because they were unsure if they’d be a good fit (or if their playing was up to par). If some of the below rings true, you’d probably be a great fit:

  • You love to play guitar, but don’t know how to effectively use your practice time to actually make progress
  • You’ve maybe tried various guitar courses, but then don’t follow through when life gets in the way
  • You can play (or at least have tried) solos from your favorite songs, but don’t feel confident going “off-script” to create your own improvisations
  • You know a couple of minor pentatonic scale shapes and some chords, but when you use them, they mostly sound like you're playing scales up and down
  • You’ve spent money on guitars and gear, but have invested far less in the most important factor in your guitar playing: your skillset!
  • You’re retired, and you want to invest your free time into something that matters to you OR
  • You’re in a high-pressure job, and you’re tired of your guitar playing suffering as a result
  • You want to move beyond simple "cowboy chords" and create interesting chord progressions all over the fretboard using a variety of different chord types and voicings
  • You've heard of the modes, but want to understand what they are and how you can use them in your playing
  • You would love to mix rhythm and lead concepts, in the style of players like Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer and John Frusciante
  • You are tired of playing the same handful of licks and chords, and desperately want a boost of creative energy

If this list describes you, this will be the perfect next step in your guitar journey!
